Jewish Repatriation of the Deceased to Another Country
By Singapore Funeral Committee (SFC) — When a member of the Jewish faith passes away in Singapore and the family requests return to the homeland, the process must follow airline rules and halachic requirements. Therefore, we plan each step clearly and keep families informed.

Core Requirements
No embalming
Jewish law does not allow embalming. Consequently, we prepare the body without chemical preservation or invasive procedures, so the body returns to the earth naturally.
Body bag
We place the deceased in a secure body bag. This protects dignity, maintains hygiene, and also meets airline handling rules.
Zinc-lined sealed coffin
International carriage requires a zinc-lined coffin that is hermetically sealed. As a result, the coffin remains airtight for flight and transit.

Documents and Clearances
Export permits and health papers
We obtain the export permit, health certificates, and any consular endorsements. Additionally, destination countries may request translations or notarised letters.
Airline and public health compliance
Airlines follow aviation and public health standards. For Singapore procedures, see the NEA after-death services page.
Religious Coordination
Community guidance
Where appropriate, we liaise with local Jewish representatives or family rabbis. This ensures the preparation and timings respect tradition.
Timing and flight selection
We choose practical flights and coordinate ground handling. Furthermore, we brief families on arrival procedures and collection at the destination.
